"Green" Bible Published, God Now Officially Hates Hippies

Nothing is safe from the annoying "Green" movement

In this day and age, you can buy a Bible aimed at almost any demographic imaginable.

There are Bibles for everyone from toddlers to teenage girls to recovering addicts. There are even Bibles on disc, narrated by James Earl Jones and Johnny Cash.
But it's the recently published Green Bible that is causing a stir in the religious community.

Supporters of the book, which highlights verses related to what believers call "God's creation" and his desire for humans to protect it, say they hope it will encourage more Christians, particularly evangelicals, to embrace environmentalism.

"In every book of the Bible, there are references to the world and how we should take care of it," said Rusty Pritchard, editor of Creation Care Magazine, an eco-friendly publication for evangelicals. "When you look at it through that lens, it really jumps out at you . . . that God is calling us to care for the world around us."

But others fear the new Bible, which has been endorsed by secular groups such as the Sierra Club and the Humane Society, will mislead Christians.

"I am concerned that many who call themselves Christians, or intend to speak for Christianity, don't interpret the Bible literally," said James Taylor, a founding elder and Sunday-school teacher at Living Water Christian Fellowship in Palmetto, Fla. "These groups don't have a religious focus; they have a desire to spread their environmental message."

Taylor, who is also a senior fellow of environmental policy at the Heartland Institute, a conservative Chicago-based think tank, said there is a healthy amount of "skepticism" among mainstream evangelicals toward the new Bible.

The debate over the Green Bible's virtues and weaknesses underscores the growing tension within the evangelical community: those who think Christians should be embracing environmental causes as part of their stewardship, and those who worry that such activism distracts believers from their mission to literally follow and spread the word of God.

Wife sets Husbands balls on fire. Man dies.

A MAN whose wife allegedly set fire to his genitals while he slept has died.

Satish Narayan, 47, an engineer, lost his battle to survive at the Royal Adelaide Hospital yesterday, 20 days after sustaining burns to most of his body. The incident has now been declared a major crime by police and it is likely his wife, Rajini, will face a charge of manslaughter or murder.Police have alleged Mr Narayan's wife doused his genitals with methylated spirit and then set him on fire about 5.30am on December 7. Mrs Narayan had been charged with causing serious harm to her husband, arson and endangering her children. A neighbour told the Sunday Mail she had visited Mrs Narayan in the Adelaide Women's Prison yesterday, before she had been told of her husband's death. She said she was providing support to her friend over what she said was a "terrible tragedy". She said the pair had held hands and prayed during her visit. "She wanted him to live, more than anything," she said. "I didn't know them very well but I've got to know her now through visiting her in prison. "The children are beautiful and it's just a terrible tragedy."

The neighbour said the couple's children were "beautiful, upright citizens" and "anyone would be proud of them". It is believed a major blaze was sparked at the couple'sCleland Ave townhouse in Unley when Mr Narayan jumped out of bed and knocked over the bottle of methylated spirit. The fire caused about $1 million of damage to the couple's home and an adjacent property. Mr Narayan suffered burns to 85 per cent of his body. Mrs Narayan and the couple's three children escaped unharmed from the burning house.

Police spokesman Senior Constable Paul Noble yesterday refused to comment on whether police were considering upgrading the charges."The information we have released is all we are going to release today," he said. But a court has heard previously it was likely the Director of Public Prosecutions would lay charges of manslaughter or murder if Mr Narayan died. It is believed the Narayans only shifted to Adelaide from Canberra a few months ago, after Mr Narayan landed a job working on the Air Warfare Destroyer project. Sturt CIB are continuing to investigate the crime.

38 yr old woman hasn't seen her 18 yr old son in 14 years. Finds him on social networking site. They sleep with each other.

A JILTED husband last night branded his wife “sick and beyond belief” — over claims she was having a fling with her own son.

The shattered ex-squaddie was left disgusted after returning from a foreign work trip to find his 38-year-old missus had fled the family home with the lad, who’s just 18.

He told how her sister broke the sickening news — claiming the pair were caught in a compromising position on the living room sofa. Another member of his family insists they found the mother and son lying naked in bed.

Last night, the 35-year-old husband said: “My whole world has been shattered. It is sick and beyond belief. What mother could do such a thing?”

...One family member revealed how she caught the pair in a steamy clinch on the living room couch three weeks ago.

The woman — who was living in the family home but does not want to be named — said: “I came downstairs and both of them were on the couch.

“The pair of them jumped up. He was lying on top of her with just a robe covering him and she had a top on but nothing covering her bottom half.

Baby born with foot in its brain. Seriously.
The parents of Sam Esquibel know him only as a miracle baby.

The Colorado Springs infant survived surgery to remove what was believed to be a tumor when he was just 3 days old.

"The doctors said to us, 'This one is for the books,' " mom Tiffnie Esquibel said.

Inside the microscopic tumor was what looked like the formations of two feet, a hand and thigh.

"To find a perfectly formed structure (like this) is extremely unique, unusual, borderline unheard of," said Dr. Paul Grabb, the veteran pediatric neurosurgeon who performed the operation on Sam at Colorado Springs' Memorial Hospital for Children.

As for what this could mean to science books, Grabb said he did not pursue it because it was not vital to saving Sam, although he did say it gave insight to stem-cell research.

"How does the body form complete extremities? Who is to say we can't grow a heart, leg or foot?" Grabb said. "This could show a window of what's possible."

Anal sex is on the rise!

With the increasing fear of STDs, lack of education, and more pledges to keep the V card, teens are saying no to vag, and yes to butt.

Carry -- a Colorado college student who had been in a steady relationship for months -- was recently cajoled by her boyfriend into some sexual experimentation.

He wanted to try anal sex, and even though the 20-year-old said she was "OK with the idea," she nervously downed several drinks before their lovemaking began.

Within 15 seconds, Carry -- not her real name -- said she was "crying and asking him to stop." They never did it again. But experts say that as social mores ease, more young heterosexuals are engaging in anal sex, a behavior once rarely mentioned in polite circles. And the experimentation, they worry, may be linked to the current increase in sexually transmitted diseases.

Recently, researchers at the Bradley Hasbro Children's Research Center in Rhode Island suggested that anal sex is on the rise among teens and young adults, particularly those who have unprotected vaginal sex.

Experts say girls and young women like Carry are often persuaded to try such sexual behavior for the wrong reasons -- to please a partner, to have sex without the risk of pregnancy or to preserve their virginity. But many don't understand the health consequences.

European Christmas Stories Rule

Santa's Little (Slave) Helper

The story of "Black Pete" and I'm not talking about the one black guy you hang out with.

Few European Christmas traditions elicit as many diverse and divergent opinions as Black Pete of the Netherlands. Santa's former slave may have been whitewashed in recent years, but many still view him as a racist caricature from the country's colonial past.

Myths about Santa's sinister helpers are as widespread in Europe as Grimm's Fairy Tales. In parts of Germany, Knecht Ruprecht brings terror into the hearts of naughty children when the gift-giving season arrives. In Austria it's Krampus, the horned devil who torments adolescents with asocial tendencies. In France, Pere Foutard does the proverbial whipping. Kids in America are threatened with coal in their stockings if they act up, but in European folklore, they are beaten with switches or stuffed in sacks. Brutal stuff. But in no country is the tale of Santa's diabolical sidekick as bizarre as in the Netherlands, home to Zwarte Piet ("Black Pete").

The story of Black Pete is unique on the continent and it is also one of Europe's oddest and most titilating Christmas traditions -- one that tends to raise the eyebrows of foreign visitors and local immigrants. No small number of people see the yuletide character as a racist emblem of Holland's colonial past.

Before trawling that debate, though, let's take a brief look at the myth that has defined the country's Holiday Season for the better part of a century and a half.

Many say it was Holland's Sinterklaas who inspired America's modern-day Santa. But that's where the similiarities end. Unlike Santa, who lives at the North Pole, Sinterklaas resides in sunny Spain. The Saint Nicolas figure that both are based on was actually a real Greek bishop who hailed from the city of Mira in what is modern-day Turkey. The Dutch version, however, is much more faithful to the original. With his gold crosier, red bishop's dress and red mitre, he's far more ecclesiastical looking than his portly American counterpart. And whereas Santa Claus is famous for circumnavigating the globe with a sleigh and his reindeer, Sinterklaas arrives in the Netherlands each year by, get this, steamship.

Steamship? At the time of the invention of Holland's modern Christmas myth by a Dutch schoolteacher in 1852, explains playright Mark Walraven, who recently wrote and staged a play critical of Black Pete, steamships were simply awe-inspiring. They must have been something akin to the Concorde or Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic spaceships.

Perpetually in tow is Sinterklaas' slave, Black Pete. At least that's what he was called from his 19th century origins up until the 1950s, when a new focus on cultural sensitivity led to a slight watering down of a tradition that was slowly subjected to the rigors of political correctness. In the new tale told to children each year, that pesky black face paint on Zwarte Piet's face comes from soot collected as Santa's helper wriggles down chimneys to deposit branches in the shoes of badly behaving kids or to help deliver presents from Sinterklaas for the good ones. Some whitewashers of this racist little tale also like to say he's a chimney sweep. "It's just an excuse used by people because they don't like to be reminded of the dark nature of Black Pete," says Walraven.

Kitty Face Reattachment

Surgeon Reattaches Cat's Face

Just like in Face Off, only Whiskers will play John Travoltas part.

A surgeon at MSPCA's Angell Animal Medical Center performed an operation Tuesday to reattach the face of a cat that was injured when it sought refuge from days in the cold in a car engine.

Edgar, a 4-year-old domestic long hair cat, returned home after three days with half of its face skinned. Her owner brought her to Angell Animal Medical Center’s 24-hour Emergency Service.

Edgar’s wounds are believed to be caused by a car's fan belt after he sought refuge from the recent cold snap. Dr. Michael Pavletic, Angell Director of Surgical Services, performed the surgery on Edgar’s lacerated face. About 35 stitches were used to reattach Edgar's face. The animal came through the hour surgery with no problems.
